The Problem
Our client’s media focused on psychology and mental health content—a tough nut to crack for a new entrant fighting for a spot in Google Search. Despite consistently publishing high-quality, Search Engine Optimised (SEO) articles, our client was only averaging ~180 active users per day from search engines.
In the world of SEO, publishing authoritative, engaging content is only half the battle. The other half involves securing backlinks from well-known brands to your website. Each link or ‘backlink’ acts as a ‘vote’ from other sites vouching for the credibility of your website’s content.
In our client’s case, they needed to earn these ‘votes’ by building connections with established brands in the psychology space. This was essential to climb the ranks of Google Search and grow their readership.
The SOLUTION
With no time to waste, Krieger Campaigns compiled a list of highly authoritative websites in the industry. We grouped websites by their Domain Rank (DR) in Ahrefs, a popular SEO tool. Any psychology website with a DR of 30 or more out of 100 was a prime target to reach out to and build a connection with.
To protect our client’s primary domain reputation, we set up a number of secondary domains to cold email from. Our team also added tech upgrades to enhance email deliverability.
Two campaigns were launched. The first targeted online therapy platforms, while the second targeted universities in the US. Both campaigns offered a free resource in exchange for a backlink.
The OUTCOME
After just 4 weeks, the campaign brought in 13 backlinks with a DR above 30. Notably, one of these backlinks was DR 86 while another was a whopping DR 94 out of 100—a direct link from the world’s largest Dissociation & Daydreaming Research Consortium.
In the following months, our client saw a surge in web traffic. The number of active users attained via SEO almost tripled. Users grew from ~180 per day to ~490 users per day—a 172% increase.
Last but certainly not least, email opt-in conversions grew by 86% while revenue from paid conversions increased by 32%.
